Mechanical engineering first Technical University entry requirements
Mechanical Engineering is the father of some other engineering disciplines such as Acoustical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Thermal Engineering and Power Plant Engineering, Optomechanical  Engineering and so on.

This field of engineering discipline  design and develop machines and other mechanical systems that operate using heat and mechanical power.

Below are listed the minimum qualifications and entry requirements to study Mechanical Engineering at FTU, including the O'Level subjects combination and JAMB subjects combination.

Ordinary Level (O/Level) Candidates

To be eligible to study Mechanical Engineering at First Technical University (FTU) an applicant must have sat for and passed one or two of the following O'Level examinations.
  • West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • General Certificate of Examination (GCE) O'Level and 
  • Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) 
The applicant must have credit passes in at least five subjects which must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and one other science subjects 
  • Biology
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematic.
The five credit passes must not be at more than two sittings.

JAMB/UTME Examination

The applicant must sit for JAMB coordinated Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), making the required cut off mark:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and
  • English Language


First Technical University Post UTME

Having been successful in the JAMB/UTME, applicant must also participate in the FTU post UTME and make the required scores for the Mechanical Engineering.


Direct Entry Requirements

These following qualifications are accepted to 200 level of Mechanical Engineering at First Technical University, Ibadan.
  • GCE Advance Level (A/L): three (3) good passes in Mathematic and Physics and Chemistry
  • National Diploma (ND): Upper Credit in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering programme from FTU or other goverment approved institution
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): applicant with HND in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant programme with minimum of Upper Credit may be considered for admission to 300 level of the programme.
Mechanical Engineering at First Technical University is a five (5) programme for students who were admitted to 100 level, leading to the award of BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

The programme is approved by the National University Commission (NUC) and fully accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN)
