The award grants which is being facilitated by the United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) is meant to be used for research programme aim to tackle global challenges in the area of disease control, climate changes, poverty, fragile state and food insecurity.
The awards being made through this research programme is part of the UKRI - ARUA three years partnership to make strong the pan African-UK collaboration accross all disciplines, encourage excellence and to build robust research ecosystem throughout the African countries.
The fund for the grants is made available by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), a UK government £1.5 billion initiative which was formed in 2015 to support research programmes which are focus on various challenges (sustainability of natural resources, flooding and famine resulting from climate change, and rapid urbanisation) faced by developing countries especially Africa. United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) is.one of the many CGRF delivery partners.
