Studying Civil Engineering Technology at Kwara State Polytechnic earned students National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering Technology on the completion of the programme. 

On completion of the programme, students are expected to be able to: 

  • Produce good Civil Engineering drawing plus schedules.
  • Interprete Civil Engineering drawing
  • Carry out necessary test on Civil Engineering material 
  • Surprise or Coordinate Civil Engineering projects
  • Interprete and implement surveyors measurements among many other things
Listed below are the minimum entry requirements to study for the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) at the Institute of Technology, Kwara State Polytechnic.

ND Entry Requirements, Civil Engineering Technology, Kwara State Polytechnic

The minimum entry requirements accepted by the Department of Civil Engineering, Institute of Technology, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin are:

Credit level passes in five subjects which must include:

  • English Language, 
  • Mathematics,
  •  Physics
  •  Chemistry, and one other subject from 
  • Biology
  • Agricultural science
  • Additional mathematics
  • Economics
  • Statistics
  • Technical drawing,
  • Auto-mechanics
  • Geography
  • Basic Electronics/Basic electricity and
  • Metal work
The five subjects must be from the maximum of two sittings from one or two of the following examination qualifications:

  • West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) O'level
  • Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE)
  • National Technical Certificate (NTC) in relevant trade with credit passes in
    • Mathematics, 
    • Chemistry,
    • Physics,
    • English Language and one other from
    • Mechanical
    • Electrical
    • Computer and other related trade subjects
  • Holders of Pre-National Diploma result in the relevant subjects may also be considered for the programme.

Applicants must sit for JAMB's coordinated Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) make the required cut-off mark.

HND Civil Engineering Technology Entry Requirements, Kwara State Polytechnic

  • O'level results as National Diploma as stated above
  • National Diploma result. Minimum of LOWER CREDIT
  • Evidence of one (1) year post-ND industrial work experience.
  • Pass in ND results may be accepted but must come with a minimum of two (2) years post-ND industrial work experience.
  • The candidate should also request his or her institution to forward his or her official academic transcript under confidential cover to the Registrar, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
