Civil Engineering and Entry Requirements - Edo State University

Civil Engineering have been part of the taught programmes at Edo State University since inception. The programme is taught to produce graduates who can design, construct, and maintain various structures in our society in a safe and organise ways.

Some. of the core courses that are going to be taught students during the period of five (5) years of the the programme are: fluid mechanics, strength of structural materials, engineering geology,  civil engineering materials, structural mechanics, civil engineering drawing, engineering drawing, elements of architecture, soil mechanics, engineering survey and photogrammetry and more.

Listed below are the minimum entry requirements accepted by Edo State University to study for an undergraduate degree programme in it's Department of Civil Engineering.


JAMB's UTME Candidates

Minimum of five (5) O'level credit passes in relevant subjects which must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and one of
  • Further Mathematics
  • Technical Drawing
  • Geography
  • Biology
  • Agricultural Science

The five subjects which must not be at more than two sittings should be from one or two of the following examinations:

  • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or 
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE O'level) or
  • National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)

JAMB's coordinated UTME

Students must sit for, pass and make cut off mark for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Edo State University organised post UTME screening.

JAMB Subjects Combination

  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics and 
  • Chemistry

Direct Entry Candidates

Edo State University accept the under listed  qualifications for direct entry into 200 level at the Department of Civil Engineering:
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE A'Level): good pass in at least two subjects, Mathematics and Physics.
  • National Diploma (ND): upper credit in relevant engineering programme
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): minimum of upper credit in relevant engineering programme

 All direct entry applicant must satisfy all O'level entry requirements to be considered for an admission .
