University of Washington Develop New Method to Check Patients Pulse and Respiratory Signal Using Phone Camera

A team of Scientists and Engineers from the University of Washington have developed a new method whereby a person pulse and his respiratory signal could be taken without actually having one on one interaction with a health worker

The method which is believed is capable of taking a remote health sensing a step further uses a camera on a person's phone or computer to measure the pulse and respiratory rate as the  video of the person's face is being taken in real time.

A publication by the University of Washington says the team have already presented the new technology at Neural Information Processing Systems conference held in December 2019.

According to the publication, the team is not expecting an inadequacy in the system due to different camera the phone and computer are made of, the surrounding lighting and the people different facial features.

However, work is on to create a better system to measure these physiological signal accurately. The team is looking at how the system could be modified to quickly adapt to each person unique physiological features and separate them from other variations as each person is different from another, the outcome of which is going to be presented comes April 8 at the ACM Conference on Health, Interference, and Learning.
