Chemical Engineering Admission Requirements Stellenbosch University

Stellenbosch University is one of the few universities where Chemical Engineering is taught in South Africa. It is taught at the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Process Engineering.

To earn a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Chemical Engineering at Stellenbosch University take a minimum duration of four (4) years on full time study mode. The programme is accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and so the graduates are eligible to register as professional engineer after gaining some years of experience.

Admission Requirements: Holders of National School Certificate (NSC)

  • Minimum selection score of 620 (score the students must achieved to be selected for admission)
  • Minimum average of 75 (best six matric subjects)
  • Minimum mathematics mark of 75
  • Minimum physical science mark 65 % 
And one of the under listed language mark

  • English Home Language: 50% (with no Afrikaans requirement) or
  • English First Additional Language: 60% (with no Afrikaans requirement) or
  • English First Additional Language: 50%, together with Afrikaans Home Language: 50% or
  • English First Additional Language: 50%, together with Afrikaans Second Additional Language: 60%.

















 






Admission Requirements to Extended Degree Programme (EDP) Engineering

Same as above but level of achievement for Mathematics is 70%
While for Physical Science is 60%

Admission Requirements: Holder of First Degree

Holders of National Diploma (ND); Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) can apply to be admitted to 2nd or 3rd year of the four (4) years Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Chemical Engineering on the condition that:


  • Language requirements is met as above
  • Pass assessments in the certain numbers and relevant modules as indicated below. 
  • The assessments must be completed within two consecutive examination period and 
  • An applicant must be selected.

  • Engineering Mathematics 214
  • Engineering Mathematics 242
  • Applied Mathematics B 224
  • Numerical Methods 262
  • Plus two additional modules as will be dictated by the department.
