UNILAG Mechanical Engineering and Entry Requirements

Mechanical Engineering is taught at University of Lagos (UNILAG) with aim to produce needed technical manpower to drive both the private and public engineering companies in Nigeria.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering form one of the pioneering departments under the faculty of engineering, having been established in 1964. 

Listed below are minimum entry requirements to gain admission to UNILAG's undergraduate degree Mechanical Engineering. This include the WAEC and JAMB subjects combination.

  • Duration of Study: Five (5) years post O'level. Three (3) or four (4) years post A'Level.
  • Degree Awarded: Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honour Mechanical Engineering 
  • Accreditation: COREN and NUC


Entry Requirements Mechanical Engineering UNILAG 

O'level Applicants 

Credit passes in five relevant subjects at not more than two sittings from one or two of the following O'level examination qualifications.

  • WASSCE 
  • NECO SSCE 
  • GCE O'level
  • NABTEB

WAEC Subject Combination 

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Department of Mechanical Engineering accept five credit passes in: 
  • English Language 
  • Mathematics 
  • Physics 
  • Chemistry 
  • Further Mathematics  or 
  • Technical Drawing 
  • Biology 
  • Geography 
  • Economics 
An O'level applicant must sit for, pass and make the cut of mark for JAMB coordinated UTME and for the Department of Mechanical Engineering UNILAG's post UTME screening.

JAMB Subjects Combination 

  • Mathematics 
  • Physics 
  • Chemistry and 
  • English Language 

Direct Entry Requirements 

  • GCE A'Level: good passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
  • JUPEB: good passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics 
  • National Diploma (ND): upper credit in relevant engineering disciplines to 200 level 
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): upper credit in relevant engineering disciplines to 300 level. 

Plus: WAEC subjects combination.
