While it is common in Nigeria to see some universities offering Petroleum and Gas Engineering or Petroleum Engineering or Petrochemical Engineering as a taught programme, only at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) is Gas Engineering offers as a taught programme. 

The course is an arm of Petroleum Engineering (the production of hydrocarbon: crude oil and natural gas) but with focus on natural gas.

The jobs of gas a engineer are in the Petroleum and Gas Industry but with concentration on optimizing the production of natural gas, or  generally focus on one specific natural resource. 

Listed below are the minimum entry requirements to study for the Bachelor of Engineering (BEmg) honour degree in Gas Engineering at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH). This include for the direct entry and O'level applicants plus the WAEC and JAMB subjects combination.

Gas Engineering Entry Requirement (OAUSTECH)

O'level Applicants

The Department of Gas Engineering, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) accept five O'level credit passes from : 
  • Mathematics 
  • Physics 
  • Chemistry 
  • English Language and 
  • Any science subjects. 
OAUSTECH give priority to a credit pass in Further Mathematics as the fifth subject at the time of this post.

The five subjects must be from one or two of the following: 
  • WASSCE 
  • NECO/SSCE
  • GCE O'level and 
  • NABTEB

O'level candidates must make the cut off mark for JAMB and post UTME (if conducted) for the Department of Gas Engineering. 

JAMB Subjects Combination 

  • Physics
  • Chemistry 
  • Mathematics and 
  • English Language

Direct Entry Applicants 

  • First degree from a recognized university in the relevant engineering courses not below Second Class Lower.
  • National Diploma: Upper Credit in relevant courses.
  • Higher National Diploma: lower credit. 
  • JUPEB: good points in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
  • GCE Advance Level:  passes in Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry
  • Pre-degree: good pass.
  • Plus the O'level result as stated above.
Gas  Engineering at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) lasted at least five years for the Jambites, leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree. 

The course is accredited by the NUC and COREN.
