An early career researcher from the University of Pretoria have been announced the winner of Best PhD Thesis in Botany 2023.
Dr Mia Momberg, a post doctoral researcher from the Department of Zoology and Entomology, University of Pretoria (UP) was awarded the South African PhD Best Thesis for her title: "Wind as a climatic driver of biotic communities in the sub-Antarctic’'
The thesis was based on wind, plant and albatross data collected from Marion Island during several expeditions. This was truly a multidisciplinary project involving collaborators from botany, ecology, engineering and ornithology.
She received this award at the 48th South African Association of Botanists meeting in January 2023.
