Catholic Universities in Nigeria

How many Catholics University is in Nigeria? We have received this question on many occasions and that is why this page is created to answer the question.

There are many Christian faith based universities in Nigeria but  while many Christian organisation can boost to owned just one university,  Catholic Church of Nigeria and the like of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel International)  parade two universities each. 

On this page are the two universities owned and operated by the Catholic Church of Nigeria. 


Caritas  University Amorji-Nike, Enugu State

Caritas University is one of the many higher institutions established by a genius, colossus-om-enviable man of God in our time and clime, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. E.M.P. Edeh C.S.S.P, OFR. 

Caritas University a private tertiary stitution in Enugu State, Nigeria is a University with a difference having  its motto: "Love for Education and Morals". It's vision is a holistic education of the human person for good life and greatness. 

Carotas University was founded by Rev. Fr. Prof. Emmanuel Paul Mattew Edeh C.S.Sp, OFR. The institution was formally opened for intake of students in 2005. the proprietor of the University is the Congregation of Sisters of Jesus the Saviour. 


The second Catholic University in Nigeria is Madonna University.  


Madonna University 

Madonna University is the first Catholic university in Nigeria. It was founded in 1999 and was accredited by National Universities Commission to operate as higher education institution in Nigeria.

Madonna University has three campuses that are located at various place in South East of Nigeria in Elele - Rivers State, Okija - Anambra State and Akpugo - Enugu State.

Each of the campuses offers top-notch education and professional programmes delivered by highly experience faculty using cutting edge teaching and learning tools, techniques and state-of-the-art research facilities. 

Madonna University is a member of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU) which comprises the like of Catholic University of Ghana; Bethlehem University, Israel; St. Mary University, London; De Paul University, Chicago, Illinois, USA and Catholic University of Portugal.
