Mechanical Engineering Admission Requirements | Central University of Technology

The admission requirements for the Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mechanical Engineering at Central University of Technology (CUT) Bloemfontein, South Africa is well display here. It is for the holders of NCV, NSC or IEB and for the international students. 

The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering house this programme and it is dedicated training students in good communication and leadership skills and how to visualize, design and develop mechanical systems capable to perform tasks that can solve problems in our society. 

Listed below are the minimum requirements for the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEng Tech) in Mechanical Engineering at Central University of Technology (CUT), South Africa.

Admission Requirements 

Candidates Matriculated Before and in 2007 

  • Physical Science: 50% 
  • Mathematics: 60% 
  • English Language: 50%
  • Mathematical Literacy: not accepted


Candidates Matriculated in 2008 and After

  • Physical Science: 50% -59% 
  • Mathematics: 60% - 69% 
  • English: 50% - 59%  


The two minimum requirements above are required from a Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (NSC) holders and must come with a minimum score of 32 points on the CUT scoring scale. 

Central University of Technology (CUT), South Africa also requires candidates to adhere to the general admission regulations for candidates who matriculated in 2008 or thereafter noting that Mathematical literacy will not accepted for the Engineering Technology in Electrical Engineering. 


Recognition of Prior Learning 

However, hope is not lost for students who could not meet the minimum admission requirements as stated above, for the Recognition of Prior Learning(RPL) plus lower minimum admission requirements could be used on case-by-case situation. 


National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Holders

CUT will select holders of National Certificate Vocational  (NCV) base on the approved selection requirements by the senate strictly adhere to the general admission regulations for candidates who completed the N3, N4, N5 and N6 qualifications at a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college.
