The prestigious Sokoto State University have just been approved to have its name changed to Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio University.
The decision to have the name of the institution changed was taken at The State Executive Council meeting which was held on May 17, 2023 and was approved by the outgoing Governor of the state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Sokoto State University was among the eight (8) state owned higher institution of learning that were approved to have their names changed, to honour and immortalized some of the state great men for their contribution to the development of the state and the country at large.
The State Commissioner for Information, Hon Akobu Dalhatu while commenting on the decision stated that it was inspired by the administration deep respect for the memories and unrivalled achievement of the people.
Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio was a warlord and a scholar who later became the Amir of Gwuandu (1819-1828). He was a brother to the founder of Sokoto Caliphate, Usman Dan Fodio.
