In a remarkable achievement signifying a milestone for Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, erudite researchers from the institution have secured their first-ever international grant, three decades after its establishment.
Dr. Ben Festus, Dr. Adekunle Adewale Uthman, Mr. Etudaiye Isah Abdulmumuni, and Mr. Blessing Babawale Amusan, representing the Polytechnic emerged as the recipients of the prestigious British Council Exams Services Research Grant 2023.
This remarkable feat remains a testament to the institution's avowed commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation.The grant, titled "Design and Evaluation of an Innovative Technology for Mobile-Based Adaptive Assessment", confirms the quality of research emanating from the Polytechnic.
The project, by its design is set to run for a duration of nine months, specifically focusing on revolutionizing assessment practices through adaptive technology integrated into mobile platforms.
Among the grant recipients, Dr. Ben Festus and Dr. Adekunle Adewale Uthman, stand as distinguished alumni of Federal Polytechnic Ede and Federal University of Technology, Akure where they both obtained their PhD in 2021. Dr. Festus is a faculty member at the Department of Physics within the School of Science and Technology at Federal Polytechnic Ede, while Dr. Uthman currently serves as the Director of ICT at the institution.
Also, Mr. Etudaiye Isah Abdulmumuni contributes his expertise from the Department of Computer Science, while Mr. Blessing Babawale Amusan is from the Department of Library and Information Science, Federal Polytechnic Ede.
Recall that the Federal Polytechnic Ede, which is currently ranked 6th in Nigeria according to the 2023 webometrics ranking, is actively working towards enhancing its global standing. This historic achievement, in which it secured an international grant for the first time, underscores the institution's growing influence in the realm of academia and research.
It is instructive that the Polytechnic stood out as the sole representative from Nigeria and the entire African continent to have its proposal accepted by the funders. Meanwhile, the assessors of the grant proposal expressed their admiration, stating, "The panel was highly impressed with the quality, innovation, and relevance of your project in contributing to the validation and innovation in testing delivery practice."
Subsequently, Dr. Sani Man Yahya, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ede, has extended his heartfelt commendations to the accomplished researchers. He emphasized that their achievement has not only elevated the institution's reputation globally but also reinforces the Polytechnic's commitment to becoming a leading force in Nigerian educational system, ditto Africa. Assuring the community of the management's dedication to further enhancing the institution's propensity for excellence.
