Illinois State University to Welcome It's First Batch of Engineering Students in 2025

Everything are in top gear for the Illinois State University's (ISU's) College of Engineering to welcome it first batch of students comes falls 2025.  

Everything needed to foster smooth take off of the College of Engineering from curricular to facility designs, as well as hiring and national searches for key administrative roles are being put in place.

It was reported that Illinois State University officially submitted curricular proposal for the three engineering programs with which the institution will start College of Engineering to the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) for approval noting that they have responded to subsequence questions. 

The Illinois State University is joining the league of higher institutions of learning where engineering is taught because of  high demand for the professionals in the field both at national and at international job market and most importantly in Illinois. This high demand with qualify and highly experience faculty, friendly campus community, it is a believe that the future engineering students at Illinois State University are going to be success. The newly created  College of Engineering is starting with Electrical, Mechanical and General Engineering. 

The College of Engineering is expecting three approval from IBHE and once received the official recruiting and marketing efforts can begin.  

The idea to establish a College of Engineering at Illinois State University was hatched back in 2016 and since then up till now there have been a continuous planing and preparation which include exploring the feasibility of Engineering programs at Illinois State by the taskforce for the project. Planning for the facilities development and curricular framework for three programs. 

In 2021 plans were presented to Illinois State’s Academic Senate while the Board of Trustees approves seeking establishment of a new College of Engineering. 

The following year, Illinois State Board of Higher Education (ISBHE) approves establishment of a new College of Engineering to be included Departments of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering while the university Board of Trustees approves plans for the execution of the project. In 2023, Dr. Thomas Keyser named founding Dean of the College of Engineering while Dr. Nesrin Ozalp started as founding Chair of Mechanical Engineering. 

When established and fully operational, the newly created College of Engineering will the Illinois State University seventh college. It will serve as a pipeline to creating more educational opportunities for historically underrepresented and underserved students to successfully enter engineering.
