The Ambassador College Ota, Won Maths Competition in South Africa

The Ambassadors College, a private secondary school in Ota, Ogun State has excelled in a Maths competition in faraway South Africa. 

The school emerges the 1st overall  at the Wits University Maths Competition 2023. It is the sixth edition of the annual prize-giving Maths competition of which final round for top performers was held on the 13th September. 

The competition has five levels. The Ambassadors College participated and emerged 1st overall at the Senior Secondary level. The school is the only one that represented Nigeria in a competition that attracted schools from all provinces in South Africa as well as schools from Botwana, Liberia, Rwanda and Namibia. 

The competition began in 2018 and aims to promote mathematics at all levels in Africa. The five (5) levels of the  competition are Middle Primary (Grades 4 and 5), Upper Primary (Grades 6 and 7), Junior Secondary (Grades 8 and 9), Senior Secondary (Grades 10,11 and 12) and Undergraduate (The first 3 years of post-secondary education). It was reported that this year competition received approximately 11 thousand entrants. 

At the final round the Ambassadors College, Ota competed with top ninety-nine learners in a 90 minute test consisting of 10 short questions and 2 proofs.

On the same story, Akinola Mofifoluwa of the same The Ambassadors College won the First (1st) Place Overall in the Senior Secondary Individuals level. 

The WMC is open to all students in Africa in the appropriate age divisions. For purposes of the competition “Africa” means countries whose dialing codes begin with a “2”.
