Baze University's Director of IT Services Promoted Senior Member IEEE

Dr. Rislan Kanya, the Director of IT services Baze University, Abuja was recently get promoted to Senior Member of  Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE) which headquarters is in New Jersey, United States of America.

According to the IEEE: for a member to be considered for the position of a Senior Member, he or she must have among many other things:

  • Being in the professional service for a period of time not lesser than ten years.
  • The candidate must have a record to prove his/her brilliant performance in his professional service for at least a period of five years.
  • Candidate must be one of these: engineer, educator, scientist, technical executive or originator in IEEE designated field. 
Dr. Rislan Kayan joined the employment of Baze University in 2011 as part of pioneer staff as Manager/Head of IT Services. He was promoted to become the Chair, Big Data Analytics and eGovernment Research Guild in 2016 and was subsequently made Director, Directorate of IT Services in 2017 the position he hold till now.

Generally, Dr Kayan Rislan, a resource and focus ICT professional has vast experience in the area of computing, information technology and systems. He is also an expert in enterprise, architecture projects, designing ICT application and programme management. He also get practical experience dealing with higher institutions, data analysis, design and implementation of campus and other larger network project and enterprise resource planning.

At Baze University Dr. Rislan lead a group of sixteen IT professionals that is responsible for all the IT services at the institution. The team among many things, with the help of information technology advances and support teaching, research and learning, help the school solve technology problems and make good use of the solution.

The IEEE's Senior Membership which Dr. Rislan is elevated to is the highest position of the association for which an application could be made and according to the professional organisation just only 10% of it over 400,000 members are able to get to the level. Other higher positions are attained by invitation.

Before joining the service of Baze University, Dr. Rislan Kayan was a doctoral researcher at  University of Portsmouth between 2012 and 2017. Before then, he was the Head of IT and Operation for Ringing and Dutse offices of Jigawa Savings and Loans Limited between 2001 and 2011.

He has also served as instructor at the Jigawa State Institute of Information Technology, where he taught subjes like: Introduction to Network Cabling, Copper Base System; Introduction to Network Cabling, Fibre Optics Base System and many other subjects. That was between 2006 and 2007. He also was Centre Manager, Suletankarkar  computer training institute, where he was responsible for administrative and academic matters.

Dr. Kayan attended University of Portsmouth for his PhD programme in ICT for Development. He did his master degree programme in IT management at Aberystwyth University between 2009 and 2010.

He was also at C-Tech Associate where he trained as Certified Instructor, Computer System Networking and Telecommunications.

Dr. Rislan got his BSc degree certificate in Computer Science from University of Portsmouth in 2006.

He earned his first ever degree certificate (Accounting) from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi back in 2001.

Besides being a member of IEEE, Dr. Kayan is also a member of the following professional bodies:

  • Member British Computer Science (MBCS)
  • Member Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP)
  • Member Metro Community Provider Network (MCPN) and
  • Member Nigeria Computer Society (MNCS)
