FUNAAB Engineering Courses and Entry Requirements

Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta FUNAAB is one of the two universities of Agriculture in the country, the other is University of Agriculture, Makurdi. It was established in 1988 by the Federal Government of Nigeria from the de-merged College of Science and Technology, Abeokuta.

The university started with the five colleges from the inception but in 2002, College of Engineering and Technology and one other College were added to the five existing ones thereby making the number of colleges in the institution seven. The school of Engineering was added base on the belief that modern day agricultural practice are widely driven by engineering and technology.

Today, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta offers five different Engineering programmes and they are listed below

The College of Engineering where all the Engineering programmes are taught was established with the aim to produce highly skill manpower who can utilize Engineering and Technology for the advancement of agriculture economy in the country thereby making surplus and quality farm produce.

The five engineering programmes at FUNAAB are five years programmes (for students that enter through UTME) leading to the award of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Engineering. The programme last for the duration of four years for those that enter by direct entry with maximum qualification of OND and they are run for three years for those that enter with higher qualifications.

All the above mentioned engineering courses are approved by the National University Commission (NUC) and they are fully accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria COREN.

Admission Requirements

There are two ways by which an applicant can gain admission to study any of the above engineering courses in as much as he satisfy the admission requirements.
    1. Through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) this include Pre-degree programme which qualify students to be admitted to 100 level and
    2. Through Direct Entry, including JUPEB which qualifies student to be admitted to 200 level.

      For a student to be considered for admission to undergraduate degree through UTME (1) above, he must have five credit passes from either
      • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
      • Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/(NECO)
      • General Certificate Examination (GCE)
      The five credit passes must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and either Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics or Geography or Biology and it must not be at more than two sittings.

      A student must also pass Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after which he must also pass the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) post UTME, making the required Cut-Off Mark for his chosen engineering programme.

      It is also required of a student to pass one of the three exam above before he could be considered for an admission by direct entry.
