The Department of Mechanical Engineering was among the three foundation department that form Faculty of Engineering at EKSU having formed in 1985 with the aim of developing qualified manpower for the nation's industrial needs.

The programme is design to meet the National University Commission (NUC) Benchmark for Academic Standard (BMAS) by the provision of well equipped practical laboratories, field works, series of industrial training couple with academic syllabus that focus on the teaching of core Mechanical Engineering courses.

Mechanical Engineering at Ekiti State University (EKSU) covers  areas such as but not limited to Thermofluids, Mechanics of Machines, Energy and Heat Power, Engineering Materials, Machine Design,  Refrigeration & Cryogenics, Production/Manufacturing, 

Admission Requirements

Admission process to study Mechanical Engineering at EKSU is by either:
  • Ordinary Level (O'level) Application or 
  • Direct Entry Application


O'level Application

Secondary School Certificate

To apply to study for BEng Mechanical Engineering at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti using Ordinary Level results, an applicant must have five credit passes in five subjects which must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Chemistry
  • Physics and any one of 
  • Technical Drawing
  • Pure Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Geography
  • Metal Work
The five (5) credit passes must be at  one sitting from either one of the:
  • West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or
  • Senior School Certificate Examination or
  • General Certificate of Education
EKSU Department of Mechanical Engineering accept O'level results from two sittings if it is 6 credit passes or more from one or two of the above examinations:

JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination

Having met the O'level minimum entry requirements to study Mechanical Engineering at EKSU, an applicant must sit for, pass and make the JAMB/UTME cut off mark.

  • Chemistry and
  • English Language

Ekiti State University (EKSU) Post UTME

An applicant who is using O'level results to sought for admission must participate in the EKSU coordinated Post UTME, making the cut off mark for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

EKSU Pre Degree Programme

Ekiti State University will consider applicant who have participated in their Pre-Degree programme for admission to study Mechanical Engineering provided the applicant make the required points of mark plus the O'level minimum entry requirements.

Ordinary Level (O'level) and Pre-Degree programme qualified an applicant a placement to 100 level of Mechanical Engineering at EKSU.

DIRECT Entry Applications

Holder of the following qualifications will be considered for admission to 200 level or 300 level of the Mechanical Engineering at EKSU.

GCE A/L: Good passes in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry

National Diploma (ND): Upper Credit in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering programmes from government approved institution.

Higher National Diploma (HND): Upper Credit in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering programmes qualify an applicant to 300 level of the programme.

Mechanical Engineering at Ekiti State University (EKSU) is a five (5) years programme for admitted to 100 level leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Honour in Mechanical Engineering on successful completion of the programme. 

The programme is approved by the National University Commission (NUC) and fully accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN)
