The Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering was established in 1962 as Department of Agricultural Engineering with objectives to train engineers who through research, designing, development and proper maintenance of farm equipments, machinery and tools will be able to:
- Increase and sustain the yield of Agricultural, Forest and Aquacultural production.
- Change or maintain the food and biomaterials natural components for other suitable purposes.
- Conserve and manage the existing natural resources without damaging it in the process of increasing agricultural production.
To fulfill the set objectives and to perform creditably other responsibilities, the Department is provided with a numbers of well equipped workshops and laboratories which include but not limited to Farm Power and Machinery Workshop, Fabrication Workshop and a Carpentry/Farm Structures Workshop.
Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering at University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) is a five (5) years degree programme for the students admitted to 100 level leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering specialising in one of the following:
- Power Systems, Machinery and Forest Engineering
- Food and Bioprocess Engineering
- Soil, Water Resources and Aquacultural Engineering
- Structures and Environmental Quality Engineering
after successful completion of the programme.
Admission Requirements
- Ordinary Level (O'level) or
- Direct Entry
O'level Application
To apply to study for BEng Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering at
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) using Ordinary Level results, an applicant must pass five subjects at credit level which must include:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Chemistry
- Physics and any one of
- Technical Drawing
- Pure Mathematics
- Agricultural Science
- Biology
- Geography
The five (5) credit passes must not be at more than two sittings from either one or two of the:
- West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or
- Senior School Certificate Examination or
- General Certificate of Education (GCE)
JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination
Having met the O'level minimum entry requirements to study for BEng Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering at the
University of Nigeria, Nsukka, an O'level applicant must sit for, pass and make the JAMB/UTME cut off mark.

University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Post UTME
Applicant must also participate in the
University of Nigeria Nsukka coordinated Post UTME, making the cut off mark for the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.
UNN Pre Degree Programme
University of Nigeria will consider applicant who have participated in it's Pre-Degree programme for admission to study Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering provided the applicant make the required points of mark plus the O'level minimum entry requirements.
Ordinary Level (O'level) and Pre-Degree programme qualified an applicant a placement to 100 level of the programme.
DIRECT Entry Applications
Holder of the following qualifications will be considered for admission to 200 level or 300 level of the Electronic Engineering at UNN.
GCE A/L: Good passes in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry
National Diploma (ND): Upper Credit in Agricultural Engineering or other relevant engineering programmes from government approved institution.
Higher National Diploma (HND): Upper Credit in relevant engineering programmes as above qualify an applicant to 300 level of the programme.
The programme is approved by the National University Commission (NUC) and fully accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN)
