ESUT Chemical Engineering and Entry Requirements

It takes a minimum of five years to study for a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemical Engineering at Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) and that is for those admitted with O'level/UTME results.

It requires a student to work for a total of 186 credits doing courses such as: process instrumentation, transport phenomena (heat transfer); transport phenomena (mass transfer); particles technology, chemical thermodynamics, chemical reaction engineering, chemical engineering laboratory, engineering mathematics, separation processes, chemical process and design, polymer process engineering, biochemical engineering and evaluation and so on, to be graduated from the programme.

Below is listed the minimum entry requirements for O'level/UTME and Direct Entry candidates to study for a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemical Engineering at Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) and this include O'level and JAMB subjects combination.


O'level/JAMB Candidates

Minimum of credit pass in five (5) subjects which must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry plus one of
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Geography or 
  • A Relevant Trade Subjects like
  • Auto Electrical Work
  • Data Processing and 
  • Radio, Television and Electronics

The five subjects must not be more than at two sitting from one or two of the following examinations qualification
  • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE O'level) or
  • NABTEB

JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

O'level/UTME candidates must sit for, pass and make the cut off mark for UTME. He must also participate in Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) coordinated post UTME screening and.make the cut off mark for the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Direct Entry Candidates

The Department of Chemical Engineering, Enugu State University of Technology ESUT, accept these underlined qualifications from direct entry candidates

  • General Certificate of Education, Advance Level (GCE A'Level): credit pass in Mathematics and Physics.
  • National Diploma (ND): upper credits in relevant engineering courses
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): upper credits in relevant engineering programme
  • Joint Unified Preliminary Examination Board JUPEB: 
ESUT conduct one year pre-degree programme for students who are short of mark to gain admission through UTME. Successful students in the programme are consider for admission to 100 level of Chemical Engineering. Those given admission through direct entry are admitted to 200 level or 300 level depending on the qualification submitted on the application.

Chemical Engineering at Enugu State University of Technology is accredited by National University Commission NUC, and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria COREN.
