Materials & Metallurgical Engineering is an engineering discipline that studies and produces material we use in all aspects of our live and at all sectors of our industries.

All the expertise of Materials and Metallurgical Engineers are directed toward the discovery, study, processing and transformation of raw materials into useful form in the building of home, construction of vehicles, power our phones, generating our electricity, producing chip for out computer and other electronic device and more.

The Department of Material and Metallurgical, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)  teaches students the technique and science of studying the properties of raw materials with aims to transforming them to useful material and to improving the existing ones.

Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at University of Ilorin is a five (5) years (10 semesters) course leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree on successful completion of the programme.

Listed below are the minimum entry requirements accepted by the Department of Material and Metallurgical Engineering, UNILORIN to it undergraduate degree programme. This include for the O'level and Direct Entry applicants plus the WAEC and JAMB's UTME subjects combination.


O'level or UTME Entry Requirements

The Department of Material and Metallurgical Engineering, UNILORIN accept five credit passes in not more than two sittings from one or two of the following:
  • West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE O'level) or
  • NABTEB.

WAEC or O'Level Subjects Combination

Five O'level credit passes must be from:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Chemistry
  • Physics and one of
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematics
  • Geography
  • Agricultural Science
  • Biology
  • Economics
O'level UTME candidates must sit for, passed and make JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and UNILORIN coordinated post-UTME cut off mark.

JAMB/UTME Subjects Combination

  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Chemistry
  • Physics

Direct Entry Minimum Entry Requirements

The Deparment of Material and Metallurgical Engineering will consider the holders of the following higher qualifications to the 200 or 300 level.

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE A'Level) with good pass in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry
  • A'level IJMB with pass in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry with a minimum of 8 points.
  • National Diploma (ND) with Upper Credit in relevant discipline (Chemical Engineering Technology, Foundry Engineering Technology, Glass/Ceramics Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing Engineering Technology, Mineral Resources Engineering Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Polymer Technology, Welding and Fabrication Technology, Wood and Paper Technology) with at least one year post diploma experience.
  • First Degree from Physical Sciences at Second Class Lower Division.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND)  in relevant Engineering discipline as above  at Distinction or Upper Credits level from recognized Polytechnic or other higher institutions of learning.
  • First Degree Honours in other Engineering disciplines.

Holders of ND, GCE A'Level, A'Level IJMB and First Degree Second Class Lower are admitted to 200 level while holders of other higher qualifications as stated above are admitted to 300 level of the programme.

Note: all direct entry applicants must possess O'level minimum entry requirements as listed above.
