Computer Engineering as a discipline entails studying, analysing and designing of Computer System which include the hardware and software.
The Department of Computer Engineering at University of Benin (UNIBEN) have everything necessary to trained students to be highly skill computer engineers at their disposal including the professional lecturers, conducive lecture rooms and well equipped, state-of-art laboratories.
Computer Engineering at University of Benin (UNIBEN) is a five years (10 semester) programme to those admitted to 100 level of the programme. Students are award the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree on successful completion of study.
Listed below are the minimum entry requirements to study the undergraduate degree computer engineering at UNIBEN. This include the direct entry requirements, JAMB and WAEC subject combination.
Minimum Entry Requirements
JAMB's UTME Candidates.
Students must have credit passes in five (5) O'level subjects which must include:
- Physics
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Chemistry and one of
- Biology
- Technical Drawing
- Agricultural Science
- Geography
- Further Mathematics or a
- Relevant Trade Subjects
The five credit must be at not more than two sittings from one or two of:
- West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE)
- Senior School Certificate Examination (NECO/SSCE)
- General Certificate of Education (GCE O'level)
- National Technical Certificate (NTC)
O'level candidates must sit for, pass and make cut off mark for the JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and University of Benin (UNIBEN) Department of Computer Engineering post UTME cut off mark.

Direct Entry Applicants
The following qualifications are accepted to study for a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Computet Engineering, University of Benin (UNIBEN):
- General Certificate of Education (GCE A'Level): passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
- Higher National Diploma (HND): minimum of lower credit in relevant engineering/technology
- National Diploma (ND): Minimum of Upper Credit in relevant engineering and technology courses
- First Degree Holders: Minimum of Second Class Honour Degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy or Agriculture or Sciences.
- Petroleum Training Institute: PTI HND/ND Engineering and Technology courses
- University of Benin (UNIBEN) Diploma in Computer Engineering, ICT, Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Maritime Studies with Merit Pass or from other accredited universities with upper credit.
Holder of HND with Upper Credit either from Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) or other accredited tertiary educational institution will be admitted to 300 level of the Computer Engineering while holders of other qualifications as stated above would be considered for admission into 200 level at the Department of Computer Engineering.
All direct entry applicants must have five O'level credit passes as stated above.
Computer Engineering at University of Benin (UNIBEN) is accredited by the Council of Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and National University Commission (NUC)
