4 Stony Brook University Academic Staff Awarded Sloan Research Fellowship

Stony Brook University, a public research institution in Stony Brook, Long Beach, New York announced the inclusion of some their faculty members among the recipients of this year (2022) Sloan Research Fellowship.  

The recipient faculty members, four (4) in numbers represent three field of disciplines (Chemistry, Neuroscience and Physics) of the available seven on which Sloan Research Fellowship is awarded. 

Sloan Research Fellowship is a project funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. It is aim to encourage and support in form of grant, the early career scholars and researchers whose works are recognised as being essential in the nation prosperity and save health delivery.

Stony Brook University is one of the four (4) universities in New York City that are represented among the fifty (50) universities in US and Canada that has one or more of their academic staffs among the winners. 

Alfred P. Sloan Foundation says, the 118 winners will receive $75000. The money is expected to fund their research projects within two years period. 

The four winners of Sloan Research Fellowship from Stony Brook University as announced by the Alfred P, Sloan Foundation are: 


Michael V. Airola : Chemistry
  • Assistant Professor
  • Dept. of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. 
  • Research Interests: Structural Biology, Biochemistry and Lipid Metabolism

Eszter Boros: Chemistry
  • Assistant Professor
  • Department of  Chemistry 
  • Research Interests: development and application of new metal-based molecular imaging probes and therapeutics for personalized medicine.

Prerana Shrestha: Neuroscience
  • Assistant Professor 
  • Department of Neurobiology and Behavior 
  • Stony Brook University
  • Research Interests: Protein synthesis dynamics in learned and innate emotional behaviors

Jennifer Cano: Physics 
  • Assistant Professor
  • Department of Physics and Astronomy 
  • Stony Brook University 
  • Research Interests: condensed matter theory.
