Tshilidzi Marwala Elected Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, the Vice Chancellor and the Principal of the University of Johannesburg have been elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. 

He was one of the 261 outstanding individuals named by the academy President David W. Oxtoby and Chair of the Board of Directors Nancy C. Andrews, to have been elected to the Academy in April, 2022. 

Professor Marwala, a computer scientist was one of about thirty (30)  International Honorary Members drawn from around the world. He was one of the two IHM from Africa on the list of 2022 elected members. He was elected a member of the academy base on his outstanding track record as a computer scientist and human capacity developer. 

His research interests are multi-disciplinary.  It cover the artificial intelligence (AI) theory and application on engineering, computer science, social science, finance and medicine . He has supervised 47 master’s and 28 Doctoral students to completion. 

Marwala, who is also a Mechanical Engineer is bestowed with many honours including:
