Anthony Waddle Wins $100,000 Schmidt Science Fellowship

A PhD candidate at the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences, University of Melbourne, Anthony Waddle have won the Schmidt Science Fellowship. 

Waddle a member of the One Health Research Group was named a recipient of the award for his exceptional research studies which focus on the conservation biology, biodiversity, disease ecology and transcriptomics.

He was among the twenty-nine (29) early career scientists drawn from 23 of the world’s leading science and engineering institutions. He was one of the three (3) fellows on the list that represent Australia. 

Schmidt Science Fellowship says:

Anthony’s research has been focused on preventing the catastrophic loss of amphibian biodiversity, due to the chytrid fungus pandemic, through veterinary and ecosystem management approaches. As a Schmidt Science Fellow, he now plans to develop ways to engender resistance to this disease in frog species using synthetic biological techniques to restore endangered populations in nature.  

Winning the Schmidt Science Fellowship eligible Anthony Waddle to a stipend of $100,000/year for up to two years for research on studies related to his PhD. 

As a fellow he will also receive support and professional development tutoring to enable him achieve his full potential to becoming future scientific leader. 

Dr. Anthony Waddle earned his B.S. and M.S. at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
