Harsha Gurnani Wins Schmidt Science Fellowship Worth $100,000 A Year

Harsha Gurnani, a PhD candidate at University College London (UCL) have been announced a recipient of Schmidt Science Fellowship.  

An highly talented person, Harsha Gurnani was among the twenty-nine (29) early career scientists from around the world named as the recipients of the reputable  fellowship in 2022.   

Schmidt Science Fellowship was established to mentor, provide professional training and finance in form of stipend to the work of PhD candidates who are passionate about discovery something new and driving innovations that are able to improve the quality of life for all. 

The research assistant, Department of Neuroscience, Physiology, and Pharmacology was named a fellow in recognition of her work in the area of systems neuroscience, inhibitory network, computational Neuroscience.

Harsha PhD work include: 

using new microscopy techniques and combined experimental and computational approaches to investigate the structure of inhibitory network activity in the cerebellum to understand these circuits in the brain. 

Schmidt Science Fellowship stated that as a Schmidt Science Fellow, she will further her research by combining neuroscience with biomedical engineering with aim to expand the quality and affordability of rehabilitative brain-computer interfaces to improve independence for many patients suffering from reduced mobility due to injury or disease.

Winning Schmidt Science Fellowship entitle Gurnani to a stipend of $100,000 per year for up to two years to be spend on research related to her PhD. She will also be mentored and make her pass through a series of professional development seasons to enable her reach her full potential as future scientific leader.
