Petroleum Engineering is a discipline of the production of hydrocarbon (crude oil and natural gas). The course at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Calabar equipped students with basic skills to get start a career as am engineer in the industry.
Listed below are the minimum entry requirements accepted by the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, UNICAL. This include for the direct and O'level applicants and the JAMB subjects combination.
Minimum Entry Requirements (O'level Candidates)
Department of Petroleum Engineering accept minimum of credit passes from five subjects which must include:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- English Language plus
- One other science subjects
The five subjects must be at not more than two sittings from one or two of:
- WASSCE
- NECO/SSCE
- GCE O'level or
In addition to the above, an O'level applicant must sit for, pass and make the cut off mark for the JAMB coordinated UTME and University of Calabar post-UTME screening making the cut off mark for the Department of Petroleum Engineering.
JAMB Subjects Combination
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry and
- English Language
The subjects combination is valid for the post UTME test if is to be conducted.
Direct Entry Minimum Admission Requirements
University of Calabar accept the following minimum qualifications to study for first degree Petroleum Engineering.
- National Diploma (ND): minimum of upper credit
- JUPEB: good points in Physics Chemistry Mathematics
- GCE A/Level: at least three pass grades from Mathematics Physics and Chemistry
- Higher National Diploma (HND): minimum of lower credit.
- Plus O'level result as stated above.
Petroleum Engineering is a five years course to those admitted using O'level result.
All the taught engineering courses at the University of Calabar are duly accredited by COREN and the NUC.
