Mechanical Engineering is one of the five courses that pioneer the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). It was incorporated in 2016/2017 academic session of the institution. 

Mechanical Engineering is inevitable. It presence is in all other engineering disciplines: be it Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Computer Engineering and so on.

Mechanical Engineering is taught at the University of Calabar to maximize the innovation capability of it students, thereby making them be able to execute problems solving projects for our society. 

Listed below are the minimum entry requirements to accepted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering for it first degree course. This include for the O'level and direct entry applicants and the JAMB subjects combination.


Minimum Entry Requirements (O'level)

University of Calabar, Department of Mechanical Engineering accept minimum of credit passes from five subjects which must include: 
  • Mathematics 
  • Physics 
  • Chemistry  
  • English Language plus 
  • One other science subjects 
The five subjects must not be more than at two sittings from one or two of: 

  • WASSCE 
  • NECO/SSCE
  • GCE O'level and 
  • NABTEB

In addition to the above, an O'level applicant must sit for, pass and make the cut off mark for the JAMB coordinated UTME and University of Calabar Department of Mechanical Engineering post-UTME screening. 

JAMB Subjects Combination

  • Mathematics 
  • Physics 
  • Chemistry and 
  • English Language

The JAMB subjects combination is valid for post-UTME test if it should be written.


Direct Entry Minimum Admission  Requirements 

Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Calabar accept the following minimum qualifications to study for it's degree course. 

  • National Diploma (ND): minimum of upper credit
  • JUPEB:  good points in Physics Chemistry Mathematics 
  • GCE A/Level: at least three pass grades from Mathematics Physics and Chemistry 
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): minimum of lower credit.  
  • Plus O'level result as stated above. 

All the taught engineering courses at the University of Calabar are duly accredited by COREN and the NUC.

The course lasted a duration of 10 semesters for those admitted with O'level result. 

Bacheyy of Engineering (BEng) is awarded on successful completion of the course.
