ARC Awarded $410,778 to UNE for Research Projects On Waste of Food

The University of New England (UNE), Armidale have been awarded a grant of Four Hundred and Ten Thousand, Seven Hundred and Seventy Eight Dollars ($410,778) for a research project which aim to find solution to food waste in Australia. 

The grant represent part of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Award (DECRA) scheme which aimed to support early career researchers and as a result improve the Australia's research and innovation capacity. 

A statement from the Australian Research Council pointed out that the council Chief Executive Officer, Ms Judi Zielke PSM fully support the move to disburse $86 million in funding for 200 new research projects as part of the ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme. 

The $410,778 grant to the University of New England will be used to fund research projects which is aimed to reduce food waste which has becomes problem to the Australian environment and burden for it's economy by finding ways by which these food waste could be converted to useful products such as feed for poultry, thereby reducing both the cost of poultry for the community and also for the Australia’s annual greenhouse gas emissions at least by some percentage. 

As a matter of rule, the research will be undertaken by the early career researchers at the institution. 

Australian Research Council (ARC) DECRA scheme for many years has been at the forefront of growing the research and innovation in Australia by way of funding and supporting of early career researchers.
