Diploma programmes at the Technical University of Kenya is design to help students who did not make a KCSE result capable of securing them admission to bachelor degree programme not to miss out in having a university education. 

Diploma qualifications if earned could be used to secure admission to a bachelor degree programme and it could be used to secure an employment as a technician in companies in Kenya.

List of Diploma Engineering Programmes and Requirements Technical University of Kenya 

Diploma in Technology in Civil Engineering
  • Entry Requirements: KCSE mean C- plus C- in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and English/Swahili.
or
  • KCSE mean D+ plus Certificate in any branch of Civil Engineering. 

Diploma in Technology in Chemical Engineering 
  • Average of C(Plain) in KCSE
  • Candidates should have obtained grade C in each of the following cluster subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/any Group III/any Group IV/any Group V. KCSE subject grouping
  • Candidates with Advanced Certificate in Technology of the Kenya Polytechnic University College or an equivalent qualification at the craft level from the Technical Training Institutes (TTI’s) or from any other recognized institution  

Diploma in Engineering Technology (Aeronautical Engineering)

  •  KCSE Mean Grade C (Plain) with at least C (plain) in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English/Kiswahili

Diploma in Technology Electronics and computer engineering 

  • KCSE mean grade of C+ including C+ in the cluster subjects 

Diploma in Technology in: Electrical and Electronic Engineering 

  • KCSE Mean grade C (plain) with C in Mathematics, Physics, and English, or relevant Certificate in Engineering

Diploma in Technology Instrumentation and Control 

  • KCSE Mean grade D+ with D+ in Mathematics, Physics, and English, or relevant Certificate in Engineering

Diploma in Technology Power Systems 

  • KCSE mean grade of C- including C- in the cluster subjects or
  • KPUC Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology


Diploma in Telecommunication systems 

  • KCSE mean grade of D+ including D+ in the cluster subjects


Diploma in Technology (Mechanical Engineering Technology) which specialisation in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Plant and Energy Engineering; Structural Fabrication and Metallurgical Engineering; Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering; Mechatronic Engineering 

  • KCSE Mean Grace C(Plain) with at least C (Plain) in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English/Kiswahili

The Diploma in Technology Engineering programmes listed above are accredited by the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK)
