Deakin University Approved Appointment of New DVC Research and Innovation

The management of Deakin University, Australia has approved  the appointment of Professor Matthew Clarke as a substantive Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation of the institution, 

Until now Prof. Clarke has been serving in the acting capacity since June. 

In this capacity, Clarke will plan and coordinate the Deakin University research strategy. He will work with the faculties and various research institutes within the university to drive improve research activities. He also responsible to facilitate  partnership with international universities, research providers and industry with aim to deepen research engagement.   

He also holds overall responsibility for the University's research activities and for the university's Institute for Frontier Materials, Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute and the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation.  

Clarke takes over this position from Professor Julie Owens who voluntary retired having completed her tenure as Deputy Vice Chancellor Research. Julie ascend that position in 2018 and performed creditably well. She has departed Deakin University at the end of July. 

Professor Matthew Clarke is a recipient of Graduate Certificate of Higher Education from Deakin University. 2009

He also hold a Doctor of Philosophy from Victoria University of Technology in 2003M, aster of Arts from Monash University in 1999 and Bachelor of Economics, Monash University in 1992.

While commenting of his new appointment Prof. Matthew Clarke thank Deakin’s University Council for the opportunity to continue to play a key role in lifting the University's standing on the global stage! 

The appointment take effect on 1 November 2023.
