Funding for WCU's Engineering Building and Program Expansion Approved by The State Legislature

The State legislature of the North Carolina has approved funding for the replacement of the engineering building and programs for the Western Carolina University (WCU)  

This was contain in the 2022-25 state budget passed on Sept. 22 by the North Carolina General Assembly which saw education taken largest portion of the share. 
The legislators representing Jackson county, WCU's  host community has sponsored bills on behalf of Western Carolina University during the budget process.

The funding which is in excess of $100 million will be used to build another engineering building, expand engineering programs and do some other things. 

The breakdown of how the funding is going to be used as published by the Western Carolina University, revealed that the sum of $95.3 million will be channelled toward replacement of the institution engineering building, with $2 million of that total allocated in fiscal year 2024-25 for advance planning. 

It was also revealed that $3.5 million, a recurring funds beginning in fiscal year 2023-2024 will use for the expansion of the WCU engineering programs to include robotics, automation, energy and control concentration.  

The institution also received funding to the sum of $1,164,615 to boost it's Division of Athletics activities in the 2024-2025 fiscal year from anticipated receipts from S.L. 2023-42, Sports Wagering/Horse Racing Wagering.  

Like some any other teachers in the state the Western Carolina University's faculty and staff will get 7% salary increment. 4% part of the increase will be implemented for the 2023-2024 fiscal year and the remaining 3% implemented for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.  

It is a believe that this funding will change the course of engineering at WCU, enabling them to adapt to evolving technology and industry needs and to provide the needed infrastructure and resources to provide cutting-edge education needed to produce next generation of engineers.
