University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Engineering Courses and Admission Requirements

University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) paraded one of the highest number of Engineering Courses among the universities in Nigeria.

Having been established in 1975, UNILORIN started it engineering programmes in 1978 with the establishment of Faculty of Engineering and Technology.  Three courses pioneered it engineering programmes and they were Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering. Some other courses followed thereafter and today the university has highest number of accredited  Engineering programmes in Nigeria

The number of the engineering courses on offer at the institution was ten at the time of putting up this page. They are all listed below:

The duration for all the above listed programmes is 5 years (10 semesters) leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Certificate.

All the programmes are approved and recognised by National University Commission (NUC) and Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN)

A publication from COREN says that all the Engineering courses carried full accredittation as of March 2019 and they will expire in  2021 and 2024. Another accreditation could be sought for before or after the expiration.

Admission Requirements

For a student to be considered for admission to undergraduate degree of any of the above mentioned engineering programmes he must have five credit passes from either
  • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or
  • General Certificate in Education Examination (GCE)

The five credit passes must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and either Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics or Geography or Biology and it must not be at more than two sittings.

A student must also pass Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after which he must also pass the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) post UTME, making the required Cut-Off Mark for his chosen engineering programme.

Admission are also granted those seeking enrolment for any of the above programmes through direct entry.
