- West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
- Senior Secondary Certificate Education (SSCE)
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) O'level or
- National Technical Certificate (NTC) or NABTEB in related trade subjects plus Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language.
All applicants must sit for JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and make the cut of mark for the Department.

- O'level results as stated for the admission to study ND
- Minimum of lower credit in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, while a minimum of upper credit from other recognised polytechnics may be considered for admission.
- Evidence of post-ND one-year industrial training programme
- Applicants with pass but not less than two years (3) post -ND industrial training programme may be considered for an admission.
