Mechanical Engineering is the father of all engineering professions thus they used to say. At Federal Polytechnic, Bida both ND and HND students are taught and imparted with the skill to become a better mechanical engineers able to solve myriad of problem facing our society using basic engineering tools and techniques.
To earn a National Diploma qualification, students are taught thirty five (35) courses which come with a total of 118 credits while HND students will be taught thirty nine courses with a total of 127 credits.
Higher National Diploma (HND) has two options and they are:
- Plant Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering

- Agricultural Science
- Further Mathematics
- Geography
- Biology
- Wood Work
- Metal Work
- Basic Electronics/Electricity
The five O'level credit passes must be at not more than two sittings from one or two of the following examination qualifications
Senior Secondary Certificate Education (SSCE)
West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
General Certificate of Education (GCE) or
National Technical Certificate
JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

Federal Polytechnic, Bida Post UTME Screening
Applicants must also participate in the Federal Polytechnic, Bida coordinated post UTME screening and make the cut off mark for the Department of Mechanical Engineering as would be dictated.
Note: candidates must have chosen the Federal Polytechnic, Bida as their first choice.
