The Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology at Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti is producing technicians and technologists useful for the advancement of the mining and petroleum industries in Nigeria.
The programme at National Diploma (ND) lasted a duration of four (4) semesters and also at HND level but Higher National Diploma students are eligible to choose one of the three options of the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology which are:
- Mining Engineering Technology
- Geological Engineering Technology and
- Minerals Engineering Technology

Entry Requirements National Diploma (ND) Minerals and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology
The Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti requires credit passes in five O'level subjects which must includes
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- English Language and any one from
- Geography/Economics
- Further Mathematics
- Mining
- Technical Drawing
- Metal Work and
- Biology
- Agricultural Science
The five credit passes must be at not more than two sittings from one or two of the following examination qualifications:
- West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
- Senior Secondary Certificate Education (SSCE)
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) O'level or
- National Technical Certificate (NTC) or NABTEB in related trade subjects plus Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language.
All applicants must sit for JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and make the cut of mark for the Department.

Higher National Diploma (HND) Entry Requirements
- O'level results as stated for the admission to study ND
- Minimum of lower credit in Minerals and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology from the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, while a minimum of upper credit from other recognised polytechnics may be considered for admission.
- Evidence of post-ND one-year industrial training programme
- Applicants with pass but not less than two years (3) post -ND industrial training programme may be considered for an admission.
