Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) is a public university which was established in 1979 by the former Governor of Old Anambra State. Just as it name is called, the institution is owned by the Enugu State Government.
The university started out as Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) a property of the government of old Anambra State. It changed names to what it is today called when Enugu State was carved out of the former Anambra State and the ASUTECH inherited by them.
Presently the university has twelve faculties where about seventy-four programmes are taught. One of the faculties, the Faculty of Engineering have seven departments. The list of the engineering programmes they taught are list below.
For a student to be considered for admission to undergraduate degree through UTME (1) above, he must have five credit passes from either
A student must also pass Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after which he must also pass the Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) post UTME, making the required Cut-Off Mark for his chosen engineering programme.
It is also required of a student to pass one of the three exams above before he could be considered for an admission by direct entry.

- Agricultural and Bio-resourses Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- Materials and Meteorogy Engineering
- Mechanical and Production Engineering
Each of the engineering courses listed above runs for a duration of five years (Ten semesters) for the students who gained entrance through UTME. But it take about three or four years for each of the courses to be completed if students gain entrance through direct entry depending on the qualification with which the students gained the admission.
All the programmes are approved by the National University Commission NUC and are fully accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria COREN.
Each of the engineering courses when completed lead to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) at undergraduate level and Masters of Engineering (MEng); Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) at Post-graduate level.
Admission Requirements
There are two ways by which an applicant can gain admission to study any of the above courses in as much as he satisfy the admission requirements.- Through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) this include Pre-degree programme which qualify students to be admitted into 100 level and
- Through Direct Entry, including JUPEB which qualifies students to be admitted to 200 level.
- West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
- Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/(NECO)
- General Certificate Examination (GCE)
