Instruction on the Electrical and Computer Engineering is given at the Department of Electrical Engineering. At undergraduate it is a four (4) years degree programme on full time study mode leading to the award of Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BScEng) in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Computer is an electronics machine. It is an interconnection of one or more processors, memory units and some other components such as sink fan, hard drive and so on. All this component are connected together electrically, this make it a necessity for computer engineers to be well grounded in electrical engineering thus the teaching of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UCT. So, at University of Cape Town, students are taught the technique of designing, developing and maintaining computer software and hardware and how the computer is powered by electric current.
