Petroleum Engineering is no doubt one of the best paid engineering programme in Nigeria. And this is one of the reasons many students who did science subjects at O/L want to pursue a career in the field of discipline.

To study Petroleum Engineering at University of Ibadan, student must be exceptionally brilliant. Apart from the fact that Petroleum Engineering is highly competitive, University of Ibadan itself is highly competitive with high study standard.

University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Candidates.

5 credit passes at one sitting or 6 credit passes at two sittings from either one or two of the following examinations:
  • General Certificate Examination (GCE)
  • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)
O/L subjects must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry plus one or two of the following
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematics
  • Economics
  • Metal Work
  • Data Processing
  • Agricultural Science
  • Geography
  • Wood Work
  • Biology
You must sit for, pass and make the UTME cut off mark.

UTME Subjects Combination
  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Physics and 
  • Chemistry
A candidate must also sit for, pass and make the post UTME of the University of Ibadan, Department of Petroleum Engineering cut off mark.

Direct Entry Candidates

  • GCE A/L in: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry
  • Upper Credit will be accepted from the candidates who hold National Diploma in related engineering programmes.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): holders of HND with upper credit will be considered for admission to 300 level of the programme.

University of Ibadan is ruining one (1) year pre-degree programme which students who were unable to make the admission through JAMB can take advantage of to get admission to study the Petroleum Engineering. 

The pre-degree eligible students to 100 level. 

Note: students who participated in pre-degree must meet set conditions for admission to be granted them and this include the O'level result as stated above.

Petroleum Engineering at University of Ibadan (UI) is fully  accredited by COREN. The programme is taught on full time mode and lasted a duration of five (5) years for the students admitted to 100 level.
