Studying Petroleum Engineering at DELSU produces graduates with basic theoretical and practical skill in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons (crude oil or natural gas) working in the upstream or downstream sectors of the industry.

Petroleum Engineering is a five (5) years programme at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) honour on successful completion of the study. Within the five years of the study students will do nothing lesser than eighty courses and all core courses and required courses must be passed before graduating.

Admission is given students to study Petroleum Engineering at Delta State University (DELSU) through UTME, Direct Entry and Inter University Transfer Mode.

Ordinary Level Subjects Requirements

To study Petroleum Engineering at Delta State University (DELSU) an applicant must have sat for and passed one or two of the following O'Level examinations. 
  • West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • General Certificate of Examination (GCE) O'Level and 
  • Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) 
The applicant must have credit passes in at least five subjects which must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and one other science subjects 
  • Biology
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematic.

JAMB/UTME Examination

The applicant must sit for JAMB coordinated Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), making the required cut off mark:

Delta State University Post UTME

Having been successful in the JAMB/UTME, applicant must also participate in the DELSU post UTME and make the required scores for the Department of Petroleum Engineering.

Delsu Pre-Degree Programme

Delta State University (DELSU) accept it's pre degree result to 100 level of the Petroleum Engineering, provided a student make the required scores and have necessary O/Level subjects combination 

Direct Entry Requirements

These following qualifications are accepted to 200 level of Petroleum Engineering at Delta State University.
  • GCE Advance Level (A/L): two (2) good passes in Mathematic and Physics.
  • National Diploma: Upper Credit in Petroleum Engineering or other relevant engineering programme from DELSU or other goverment approved institution
  • NABTEB's National Technical Certificate (NTC) with Credits in relevant technical programme.
  • JUPEB: Delta State University accept JUPEB result.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): applicant with HND in Petroleum Engineering with minimum of Upper Credit may be considered for admission to 300 level of the programme.
